 “High Five”

High Fives

South Side Elementary’s first high five for the year goes to a person that never stops thinking about ways to make our school a better place. Everyone in our school knows that Julie Becker is always willing to help others and to push things to a higher standard. Julie is a unique member of our team as she is our building tech coach and half time second grade teacher. She is also mentoring our new teachers. Julie also serves as our unofficial mentor to everyone. Her leadership is thoughtful, quiet, and motivated only by helping others in any way that she can. If something has improved in our school, it is likely that Julie played a larger part in the improvement than she will take credit for.

One of Julie’s passions is student centered learning. Maker Space planning and improvement, after school STEM clubs, STEM Family Nights, and a willingness to help out with anything that is happening in our school are all things that Julie is well known for. Julie is also a natural problem solver. Although Julie is everyone’s go-to for advice or strategies, she can often be heard asking others about their approach when she is planning for something. This openness sets a great example to her peers and to her students to better understand that learning is a community process and that nothing good comes from isolation. We appreciate Julie at South Side and can’t stress her value enough through a few paragraphs written for a newsletter. THANK YOU, JULIE!
